Standard 2: Educators act ethically and maintain the integrity, credibility and reputation of the profession.
During my 4 week practicum at Ron Brent, I had to ensure I was following Standard 2 as I was involved in many SBT and IEP meetings for students in my classroom. There were 16 students with designations in my class therefore there were many meetings and discussions I was a part of to ensure each student was supported. I had the opportunity to fill out some IEP and SBT forms with the assistance and guidance of my coaching teacher. Having this experience allowed me to recognize how much work and attention to detail is needed not only to fill out these forms, but how much you must recognize about each student on a day to day basis. As I knew a lot of information about each student, it was my responsibility to act ethically and only discuss the information about students with my coaching teacher and the staff involved with each specific student at the school. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to follow the standards and keep confidential information about students private. I take this very seriously and it reached a whole new level when I was receiving personal information about students in my class. Knowing this information though is important as a teacher as I better understood each student and their needs. I feel very fortunate that I got the opportunity to learn how crucial IEP and SBT meetings are, but I also learned that I have a lot of confidential student information and that I must act and follow the guidelines accordingly.
